Highlights about the Night Food Tour

Itinerary

🚇 Meeting Point: Yonghegong Lama Temple Subway Station

Stop 1 - Lama Temple 雍和宫 (Optional)

Start with a guided visit to the Lama Temple, which is the largest and best-preserved lama temple of Tibetan Buddhism with influential status in Beijing, and also is the cradle of two great emperors of Qing dynasty—Emperor Yongzheng who once lived there and Emperor Qianlong who was born there.

Your guide will walk you through its history, architecture, and daily rituals, explaining incense customs, symbolism, and why locals come here to pray.

You’ll explore the courtyards, prayer halls, and towering statues at a relaxed pace, with time to observe worshippers and soak in the atmosphere.

Stop 2 - Food Crawl

Three dine-in spots.

Eat Noodles in a Hidden Hutong Noodle House
When Beijingers talk about noodles, there’s really only one that matters — zhajiangmian. Tucked inside a quiet hutong courtyard, this tiny, almost workshop-like shop serves handmade noodles with a rich soybean paste, minced pork, and fresh toppings. You mix everything yourself, just like locals do - simple, satisfying, and deeply Beijing.

Enjoy Traditional Shuan Yangrou (Beijing Hot Pot)
Next, we step into one of Beijing’s most iconic food traditions — shuan yangrou. Thin slices of lamb are cooked instantly in a classic copper pot with clear broth, then dipped into rich sesame sauce. It’s warm, interactive, and all about the quality of ingredients - exactly how locals have been eating it for generations.

Experience Everyday Beijing at a Local Restaurant
Finally, we head to a classic neighborhood spot for authentic Beijing stir-fry dishes. Think sizzling plates, bold flavors, dumplings, and share-style comfort food. It’s casual, lively, and gives you a real feel of what everyday dining in Beijing is like.

Stop 3- Confucius Temple & Imperial College 国子监

After a full meal at two dine-in restaurants, continue walking along Guozijian Street, passing the Confucius Temple and the historic Imperial College.

Their tranquil courtyards, ancient stone tablets, and shaded walkways offer a calm contrast to the lively hutong dinner streets nearby — a glimpse of old Beijing’s scholarly heritage.

Stop 4 - Hidden Hutong Brewpub

End the evening at a hidden hutong brewpub, where locally brewed craft beers are served in a relaxed, welcoming setting. Popular with locals, this cozy spot is perfect for unwinding with a drink while learning about Beijing’s growing craft beer scene and how historic hutong neighborhoods continue to evolve after dark.
