What is Cloisonné

Cloisonné, or Jingtailan (景泰蓝), is a traditional Chinese craft and an important part of any Beijing culture experience. It dates back over 600 years and was once used in imperial palaces.

The process involves shaping thin metal wires into patterns, filling them with colorful enamel, and firing them at high temperatures. The result is a smooth, vibrant piece with rich colors and delicate details.

Today, cloisonné is not just something to see-it’s something you can experience. In a hands-on workshop, you can create your own piece and connect with Beijing’s culture in a much more personal way.

Step 2 - Wire Shaping & Setting

Apply glue along the outlines, then carefully bend and place the metal wires to form the pattern. Let it dry slightly to secure the structure.

Step 3 - Color Filling & Finishing

Mix and apply colored enamel into each section layer by layer. Once dry, seal the surface with a protective coating to complete your cloisonné piece.
