Beijing isn’t just ancient walls and grand palaces — it’s a living city where 20 million people chase their own rhythm. When Friday night hits, the pace softens. Office lights fade, hutongs come alive with barbecue smoke, and old Beijingers wrap themselves in towels at the bathhouse, ready to chill hard.
Weekends here aren’t about ticking landmarks off a list. They’re about slowing down — soaking in hot water, riding a horse in the forest or hiking through wild mountains where the Great Wall still breathes history.
If you want to find things to do in Beijing, here are 3 favorite ways to unwind in true Beijing style.

1. Bathhouse Time

Not a spa. Not hot springs. Bathhouse. About 350 RMB gets you 5–6 hours on weekend or 16h on weekdays: sauna, hot pool, body scrub, tea, fruit, and a big reclining chair where people nap like cats.Everyone is super chill. No one judges anything. It’s peak “躺平” energy.
Highly recommend the Bathhouse: Shuiguo Tangquan 水裹汤泉. More details check the videos please.

  1. Horse riding in the forest- just 30 minutes from Chaoyang Station

Not every weekend in Beijing has to be cafés and hotpot.Sometimes, it’s about getting out of the ring roads a little — just enough to feel wind, grass, and some quiet space to breathe.
From Beijing Chaoyang Station, it only takes about 20 minutes by high-speed train, plus 10 minutes by car to reach the relaxed ranches where locals go to ride horses, learn basics, or just hang out with animals.
It’s surprisingly peaceful. No city noise. Just open fields, sunlight, and hooves hitting the ground.

3, Hiking the wild Great Wall isn’t like visiting Badaling or Mutianyu.

Here, the stones are broken, the paths are steep, and the mountains feel endless.
You’ll walk along untouched ridges, with the wind in your hair and valleys stretching out forever.
Sometimes you climb with your hands, sometimes you slide on loose gravel, and sometimes you stop — just to breathe and look.
It’s not polished, not crowded, and not “easy.” But that’s exactly why locals love it.
IF you wanna go, DM me and I can help you to book a local hiking tour for it!
